The continuing drought in South Africa has disrupted food production and threatens to push food prices up, agriculture deputy minister Bheki Cele said last week.
Water Research Commission spearheads Moreletaspruit clean-up
In celebration of Nelson Mandela Day the Water Research Commissions (WRC) was joined by friends from the Faerie Glen Nature Reserve, Department of Sanitation, Adopt Moreleta Forum, Friends of Moreletaspruit river reach, City of Tshwane and the Department of Environmental Affairs top clean up the river banks of the spruit.
Wits engineering student lends a hand
Diepsloot township came to life last week when four international teams descended on the Father Blondel Centre to participate in the Community Plumbing Challenge. The challenge was hosted by Water, Amenities, Sanitation Services, Upgrading Programme (Wassup), a community organisation that repairs and maintains communal toilets in extension 1. Each team renovated two toilets and collaborated on best design practices. International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials was the main funder.
