Scam alert

The South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) has issued a notice, warning banking customers of a new scam, where businesses receive an email/letter informing them that a particular supplier has changed their bank account details. The scammers will include details of the new account and the recipient will then be asked to make future payments into the new account.

Recognising World Plumbing Day 2019

The Institute of Plumbing South Africa (IOPSA) visited various regions in celebration of World Plumbing Day 2019, which falls on 11 March annually.

This year, on 10 March 2019, the IOPSA national team set out to help clean our water and our environment through either a beach clean-up for our coastal regions, or a river clean-up for our inland regions.

KwaZulu-Natal beach clean-up

The IOPSA KwaZulu-Natal region hosted a beach clean-up where plumbing members and non-members were invited to attend the activity. The team and their families met at the Mangrove Nature Reserve to clean up litter in and around the ocean. More than 30 people came out to the event and over 50 bags of refuse were collected.

IOPSA head office park/river clean-up

IOPSA National invited a few groups of plumbing companies to join in a park/river clean-up near the offices in Dowerglen.

There was a great response in attendance, as some 50 people came out to make a difference. From plumbing business owners to licenced plumbers and children, a wide scope of people were in attendance. Over 70 bags of papers, clothing, plastic, and glass were collected and disposed of.

IOPSA Gauteng school drainage project

The IOPSA Gauteng committee came together to replace drainage at a school that has been around for many, many years. The IOPSA team had students from a nearby college volunteer their time to dig trenches for the drainage.

This is an ongoing project and done at no cost to the school.
